DISEC
The Disarmament and International Security Committee
The Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC), is responsible for addressing international security and disarmament issues. Its mandate is to promote peace and security, prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and encourage disarmament and arms control. DISEC considers and makes recommendations on a wide range of issues, including conventional weapons, weapons of mass destruction, and disarmament machinery. The Committee also has the power to establish working groups, which can conduct investigations and make recommendations on specific disarmament and security issues. DISEC’s recommendations and resolutions are non-binding, but they are influential in shaping the international response to disarmament and security challenges. The Committee’s work is supported by the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and other UN bodies, and it is closely monitored by civil society organizations and other stakeholders. DISEC plays a crucial role in promoting peace and security and in addressing disarmament and security challenges.
